We have arrived. We just recently moved to Nairobi, Kenya on the big continent of Africa Life has changed in a big way for the Dellamater family… I’m sure the first thoughts running through your mind right now are… how? when? And why in the world would they do that?
Have you ever pondered the
question… “Where am I really supposed to be and what exactly should I be
doing?” We have asked ourselves that question many times… some
things in our life have been great and some have been a struggle, but
we’ve wondered is there more? How can we be really effective for
God’s kingdom? Can we make a difference? YES!
We can! In Ephesians 2:10 it says" For we are created in
Christ
Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
God has been preparing us for a work and we will be working in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Next question you probably have is… What are you going to do there, and why YOU? Nairobi is home to the LARGEST slum in the world, the Kibera slum. Over a million people are living there in dire conditions. The country is ridden with the AIDS epidemic, starvation, poor water supply, and there is little opportunity for people to ever improve their living conditions. Through First Love International Ministries, children and families do have hope! First Love has recently purchased FIVE acres of land… the "Karen" project and they need someone to coordinate construction of: 1. A CHILDREN'S HOME for 100 ORPHANS whose parents have died from the AIDS epidemic 2. A SCHOOL FOR K-8th grade including classrooms & furniture 3. Digging a DEEP WELL (a big deal in a drought ridden land) 4. A TRAINING CENTER for teaching Kenyans a vocational trade 5. A place of HOPE, where children can grow, learn and be loved without fear of abandonment. Brian has had a lifetime of experience in construction and carpentry. He will oversee the construction at the site… He will be working with Kenyans and short-term teams from the States. Heather will be home schooling their boys and working with the children at two existing schools (Mitumba & Raila) in the slums of Nairobi.
